Aerial Yoga
Is a combination of traditional and modern yoga poses with the use of a hammock. Aerial yoga defies gravity and allows you to perform various yoga poses that may be difficult to do on the ground but easier in mid-air. It’s fun and has an acrobatic feel!
The benefits of Aerial Yoga include:
Total body workout: almost all the body parts move and stretch. Muscles are toned and redefined, and joints are regenerated and strengthened due to these movements.
Psychologically beneficial: aerial yoga helps rebuild your emotional system because it clears the mind and relieves stress due to its meditative state.
Improves flexibility: Aerial yoga helps you to move more freely, by counteracting gravity. Suspension in the air releases tension on the bones and muscles, increasing flexibility and deepening your practice. Suspended yoga strengthens core muscles and increases spinal and shoulder flexibility.
Can help heal back problems: Hanging supported and freely in the hammock can facilitate decompression of the spine. It creates space which improves flexibility and mobility. Less strain on your back while doing the exercises can ease tension in the spinal cord and hip joint, helping to reduce pain.
Increases strength: Aerial yoga improves strength and flexibility which enhances other sports or daily activities. The core workout is a beneficial cross-training, as it helps runners increase stamina and be able recover faster.
Reduces Stress: Practising Aerial Yoga mindfully, can help to energise the body and mind. It increases the adrenaline and also releases “happy” hormones like serotonin, endorphins, oxytocin, dopamine, which boost your mood and can help you feel more energetic or relaxed.
Improves balance: Aerial Yoga also helps with balance and stability in daily activities. Balance is a key component in daily activities, and aerial yoga helps maintain a good balance both externally and internally.
Aids digestion: The different types of stretches and movements help improve the digestive system, thus helping in healing various digestion-related issues, including constipation and indigestion.
Old age and heart disease: Aerial yoga improves the circulation of blood, thus combating aging and its symptoms. Aerial yoga also helps detoxify the circulatory and lymphatic systems, which lowers the onset of various cardiovascular issues.
***Aerial/Hammock Yoga - Course Rules and General Information***
If you suffer with or have any of the below listed health issues or conditions, you should NOT participate in aerial/hammock yoga:
Heart patients (those with low or high blood pressure, heart surgery or those fitted with a pacemaker)
Glaucoma (pressure in the eyes)
Pregnancy
Recent comprehensive/major surgical procedures
Vertigo or Dizziness
Patients who have mild conditions or whose symptoms have improved over a period of time may attend upon a successful doctor’s examination and subsequent note of approval.
Clothing Requirements:
Hi sleeveless tops can be worn but may be uncomfortable in the hammock. It's more preferable to wear half length or long sleeved tops. Jogging trousers or leggings can be worn but should not have zips or studs that may tear the hammock.
All jewellery, accessories and other obstructive/restrictive personal items should be removed prior to the start of the lesson.
Aerial Yoga classes should not be attended on a full stomach.
At every stage of the hammock/aerial yoga lessons, students are taught to maximum safety standards under the careful supervision of an experienced instructor.
Our aerial yoga hammocks are custom designed to be able to carry up to 300 kg in weight and are completely safe. All applicable aerial yoga movements, sequences, poses and activities have been tried and tested with safety at the forefront of their design and planning.
Aerial yoga stimulates and works all elements of the musculoskeletal system, primarily the spine, under zero pressure.
Positive changes take place that affect the entire circulatory system, including the stimulation of all tissues to awaken, refresh and renew and this in turn can quickly improve the emotional wellbeing of the participant. Aerial yoga activates and increases the regulation of enzyme activity in all the internal organs, especially the enzymes of the brain, which stimulates the release of hormones such as Serotonin.
