Ashtanga Vinyasa Inside Out – Outside In (14-16 October 2016)
In this series of five sessions we will explore details of the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa series to find awareness in its transitions and new alignment depth in old poses. Mindfulness of the breath will be used to bring the brilliant core of the central axis out through the forms of the postures. Through the continuous joining and separating of masculine and feminine movements in both the breathing patterns and the structures of the poses, an attention to fine detail becomes natural and easy.

Friday PM
Square One, Touching Earth
We will play with the subtlety of uddiyana-mula bandha, so that the legs and the feet connect to the earth, and the coccyx and kidneys become the sofa of Patanjali.

Saturday AM
Curling, coiling and twisting in wave patterns
Breath and body can learn to move with continuous alignment, manifesting in a natural movement into the central axis as prana and apana naturally and organically interpenetrate all through the body.

Saturday PM
Arm balancing with strength alignment and focus
Learning how the shoulder blade structurally interfaces with the ribcage, spine and abdomen

Sunday AM
Backbending with the Subtle Breath
In all backbending postures, knowledge of subtle actions and counteractions and how to fine tune them can eliminate joint compression and leave you grounded, open and clear.

Sunday PM
Inversions, Pranayama and Letting-Go
The shoulderstand and headstand families of postures are keys and precursors to other forms of contemplative practice. In these poses the palate plays the central role as it opens the central axis of the body.

Yoga Essentials Immersion (17-21 October 2016)
Morning: Asana
Afternoon: Essentials Immersion

This course is designed for students of all levels those new to Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and experienced practitioners who want to deepen their understanding and practice. It offers insight into important and interlinking aspects of the practice. In morning asana sessions, we will explore the internal forms of alignment and form that are essential when practicing asana so that postures may flow safely and intelligently on the thread of the breath. Afternoon sessions of practice include an introduction to chanting, pranayama and Indian philosophy with an overview of some of the essential texts such as the Kena and Katha Upanisads, the Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita.
